About Capital University of Physical Education and Sports
Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (hereinafter called CUPES) was established in 1956. Since its founding, the university has been at the top among the same type of universities and colleges in the respect of size, level, course design, faculty, teaching quality, research and facilities. In 2006, it was given Excellence Award by Ministry of Education in Undergraduate Education Evaluation. During the period of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, about 2000 students and teachers from CUPES directly participated in organization work, referee work, competition work and volunteer service work of Organizing Committee of Olympic Games.
So far, CUPES has developed a multi-level, multi-type, and multi-form education pattern. Now, it sets up all the undergraduate majors of sports education designed by MOE: Martial Arts and Chinese Traditional Sports, Sports Coaching,Human Kinesiology, Public Management, Journalism, Guidance and Management of Social Sports,Leisure Sports, Physical Education, Dance Performance, Exercise Rehabilitation, and Sports Economics and Management. Besides, CUPES is proud of its outstanding faculty, because of their high academic level, rich teaching experience and strong professional dedication. CUPES can also accept foreign students under the Chinese government scholarship.
To meet with the needs of national medium and long-term education reform and development as well as the needs of building Beijing as the International Sports Centre and a healthy city, CUPES will strive to become a delicate first-class sports university in China with its careful education, precise administration and elaborate construction.
CUPES is quite active in cooperation and exchange with foreign countries. School of International Education (SIE) is the official administrative department of CUPES in implementing the CUPES international policies and in coordinating its international exchange and cooperation as well as in enrolling international students. At present, CUPES has signed the joint education agreement with more than 20 universities or research institutes from America, England, Korea, Japan, Finland, Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Belgium, Greece, etc. By exchanging students and visiting scholars, the university intends to build up a higher-level cooperation network with foreign universities based on education and research cooperation. CUPES has a current enrollment of around 3,000 students, among whom there are over 50 long-term international students. Besides, more than one hundred short-term international students from about 30 countries or regions are received annually.
